This Entryway Staple May Be Perfect for Creating Extra Style and Storage in Your Kitchen

Spiro Georgi and his husband live in a 2018-square-foot colonial-style home in Connecticut that they’ve loved for more than five years. “We always made our previous apartments look and feel like a country home in the hopes that we would one day move to New England and buy the dream house,” Georgi says. “We finally made the move in the fall of 2016, and settled in the countryside of Connecticut.”

The couple’s dream home is full of cozy touches that make the home feel super warm and welcoming. Georgi’s design style is a clear mix of modern farmhouse and and English cottage vibes. Earthy, worn textures are all over this home, and they’ve doubled down on one pattern in particular. “Plaid is definitely our thing,” Georgi says. “Every room in our house has something in a plaid pattern.”

In the kitchen, which is Georgi’s favorite room, there are three black metal stools with plaid cushions set beneath a black, built-in counter to create a cozy eating nook. The best part about this space is the shelf hung above the counter, which looks like it’s made for an entryway or mudroom.

The wooden shelf has a wide ledge up top, and the entire thing is painted in a shade of baby blue. There are six metal hooks, too, which offer a great opportunity for grab-and-go storage. In another space, these hooks would typically be used for coats, hats, and keys, but they ended up being a perfect place to store serving boards, towels, and oven mitts.

If you’re looking for a unique way to add some extra storage in your kitchen, this is a great option. “When we bought the house, the first major renovation we had done was create this dreamy kitchen,” Georgi says. “We designed the kitchen to be one of a kind, and we successfully achieved that goal.”
