Get Your Walls Ready Because Etsy’s 2022 Design Awards Winner Is Unlike Anything You’ve Seen Before
If you love well-made, one-of-a-kind home finds, then today’s your lucky day: Etsy just announced the winners of their 2022 Design Awards. The annual event spotlights up-and-coming sellers worldwide across art, kitchen and dining, decor and lighting, furniture, and vintage categories. This year, Etsy’s resident trend expert Dayna Isom Johnson teamed up with a panel of judges from The Expert — including Jenna Lyons, Brigette Romanek, and Jake Arnold — to select one Grand Prize winning design, and it’s hands-down one of the most unique (and reasonably-priced!) home accents I’ve seen.
The 2022 award goes to U.K.-based seller Tim Stevenson, owner of Ety shop We Are Lunarium, for his ultra-cool Large Modern Wall Hanging. This bestselling fixture features cascading layers of plywood, metal, ceramics, and beads, all hand-painted in cool, earthy tones for the ultimate mid-century modern-inspired style. And speaking of inspiration, Stevenson explains in the below video that he originally made these geometric creations to fill a decorating gap in his own home. “We needed something that was a little bit different,” he says. “I began by putting together two or three discs just to make a small wall hanging, and it just progressed from there.”
That progression has since translated to over 4,300 Etsy sales and, now, well-deserved Design Awards recognition. Judge Jake Arnold, co-founder of The Expert, even commends Stevenson’s winning wall hanging, adding that “the use of mixed materials is really impressive in that even though it combines so many different material types, it is still calming and inviting.” And to match any interior style, this contemporary decor also comes with three display options — black or white hooks, or none at all — starting at $189.71. Not bad for such a special handmade wall wow-factor!
In addition to Grand Prize, the 2022 Etsy Design Awards highlight 100 finalists overall, narrowed down from thousands of entries, which includes winners within each individual category as well as a People’s Pick Award recipient.
