We can blame store displays for making the holiday season feel like it comes earlier and earlier, but they’re not totally to blame. As it turns out, we’re a little bit responsible as well. At least that’s what the data at Etsy shows. They actually see searched-for holiday-related purchases spike in October. Because of that, they can also see what kinds of holiday decor purchases people are interested in making. Here are six trends they’re seeing take off—and our favorite pick from each one for your home.

Boho

Etsy is predicting a “boho(ho)” holiday based on the increased interest they’re seeing in the trend more generally. “Over the past year, we’ve seen a resurgence of bohemian influences throughout the home decor space,” says their in-house trend expert, Dayna Isom Johnson. That can mean brightly-colored, eclectic buys as well as more neutral pieces like this macrame placemat. Bonus: you can use it year-round, too.

Neon Brights

All is bright… but not necessarily calm. That’s because Isom Johnson is expecting that alongside the typical holiday colorways, we’ll see bold pops of neon. If you’re overwhelmed by the idea of adding such statement-making pieces into your decor, Etsy recommends going for small accent pieces that will keep you from feeling neon overload.

Delectable Decor

Not surprisingly, our love of food extends to holiday decor as well. Just like during the rest of the year, Etsy is predicting beloved foods like avocados, tacos, and doughnuts will sell big in both expected (ornaments) and slightly-more-unexpected holiday buys. (Food-themed dreidels, anyone?) But it’s not all kitschy-cute. These small dishes that look like mussels, for example, are an elevated way to have fun with food.

Modern Farmhouse

Chip and Joanna’s design influence naturally extends to this most magical time of the year. And the polished-yet-rustic feel is perfect for the coldest time of the year. “Maybe it’s the pine trees, but rustic decor has always felt synonymous with the holiday season,” says Isom Johnson.

Peace On Earth

Etsy has also declared their favorite trend of the season is “love and acceptance for one and all.” What better way to spread that message than with the sentiment of peace on earth, goodwill to all. We like that this cutting board does just that – while also being the perfect way to serve up holiday snacks or cookies.

Unconventional Place Settings

Place settings, like a different fork for every single course, seem like vestiges of a more formal time. But Etsy sellers are bringing them firmly into 2018 with quirky, inventive takes on the tradition. Done right, they’re also fun favors for guests to remember the night. These star-themed ones play on the zodiac trend.
