This Viral TikTok Video Shows How To Make Fake Plants Look Real
Though faux plants have evolved quite a bit in the past decade, there are still some out there that are unmistakably fake. But The Sorry Girls, who run a successful home decor YouTube channel, just posted a viral TikTok about how to make your fake vine plants look real, and even the greenest of thumbs might have a hard time distinguishing the difference.
Firstly, any crinkle in your leaves is going to give away the fact that these plants aren’t the real deal. So, The Sorry Girls (@thesorrygirls) recommend giving each leaf a steam to smooth them out and give the leaves a natural curl.
Then, you’ll need to add some variety to the leaf shape. The Sorry Girls recommend trimming the leaves toward the tip of each vine so they’re smaller than the rest, giving the effect that they’re newer growth.
And with the extra leaf bits you trimmed off, you can curl them and reattach them to the vine to give the illusion that your vine is sprouting new leaves.
And finally, pothos vines that are trained to grow on walls (which you can do using small pins or nails and propping vines up on them), you’ll see them start to naturally grow flat against the wall. The Sorry Girls showed in their video how you can use dabs of hot glue (or a Command strip/ putty tack) to mimic that look with your fake vine.
The Sorry Girls wrote in the comments that they source all their faux plants secondhand, so definitely check out your local thrift stores before dropping money on new vines.
Your faux vines will blend into your space and look so good that your friends will be asking you for houseplant growing tips.
