When you think of the iconic air freshener brand Febreze, you likely think of crisp scents like clean laundry, florals, and ocean breezes. But Febreze’s Scent of the Year brings something a bit different to the table. Inspired by the idea of creating JOMO (“joy of missing out”) in your home, the home fragrance company wanted to create an inviting and rich scent so that any night at home can become a staycation.

What Is Febreze’s 2025 Scent of the Year?

The latest scent is Vanilla Suede, from the brand’s new Blends Collection. It smells more like a high-priced perfume than an odor-blocking home spray, with rich notes of mahogany, gold amber, and smoked vanilla. It’s immediately comforting, and I’d liken it to the way a great hug feels.

Another bonus? There are several ways to enjoy the scent, whether it’s in the Febreze’s AIR spray, PLUG home scent diffuser, or FABRIC clothing and upholstery spray. You can find the products online or where you normally shop for Febreze products.

“Amidst the chaos of everyday life, we’re seeing a rise in self-indulgence and a desire to take back control of our spaces,” Febreze master perfumer Rafael Trujillo said in a press release. “People are looking for reasons to spend more time at home, whether that means hosting friends or curating the perfect night in, and Vanilla Suede helps them do just that: transform any space into a personal oasis.”

This is Febreze’s fourth year of creating a Scent of the Year. Trujillo works with the Febreze Fragrance Group to design a scent that reflects home decor trends. This year, the group saw a shift in Americans wanting to spend more time at home, which inspired the perfumers to create this relaxing, comforting fragrance.

Past Scents of the Year include 2024’s Romance & Desire, which was a blend of rose petals and champagne spritz, and 2023’s Mountain with fresh notes of alpine, wildflowers, and cedar. If you want to experience those delightful fragrances, you can check out where to find them
