Before Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha, before Ginger, Baby, Sporty, Scary, and Posh, there was the ultimate pop culture girl squad and they were called The Golden Girls. On September 14th, we celebrate the 33rd anniversary of Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia inviting us in to their Miami abode and sharing with us their sometimes wacky, but always loving female friendship. No, thank you for being a friend, ladies.

To mark this occasion, e-design company Modsy, who also reimagined the famous Friends apartment and Cher Horowitz’s Clueless closet, decided to give The Golden Girls’ home an update for 2018. Not that it or any of the ladies need a makeover, but it’s fun to imagine what the iconic place would look like today. They didn’t touch the lanai because that is sacred ground, but a few other familiar rooms have gone through the Modsy makeover. Everyone have their slice of cheesecake ready? Let’s dig in.

The Living Room

According to Modsy’s Director of Style Alessandra Wood, the team wanted to update the room “while still staying true to the overall character and essence of their original space.” To keep the Miami-vibe alive, you’ll find the room furnished with rattan pieces, floral and palm leaf patterns, and lots and lots of plants. They also used Benjamin Moore’s Pale Petal “to brighten up the room and give it a crisp feel.” Keep your eyes peeled for some nods to the series, like the cigar box and Dorothy’s wedding photo. A room fit for both a pal and/or a confidant.

The Kitchen

Ah, the iconic Golden Girls kitchen. So many pieces of cheesecake eaten. So many problems solved. So many of Dorothy’s sarcastic jabs. This is an important room in Golden Girls history, and Modsy left the majority of it the same—from the layout to the cabinets, a lot of what you remember is preserved. So much hand-holding went on around that table, it only seems right. But there are some changes: Modsy took “a note from their infamous floral tablecloth” and added similar wallpaper; The woven storage cabinet in the corner keeps in line with the South Beach theme; and the barstools in the back have a rush seat, for a more modern feel.

The Bedroom

If you’re going to update any of the girls’ bedrooms, it only feels right that it belong to our hottie southern belle, Blanche Devereaux. Modsy took “the foundational style elements from Blanche’s bedroom” and according to Wood, “turned them into a slightly softer and more refined experience for the modern eye.” Obviously, the focal point of the room is the big sculptural headboard for the bed—both exotic and glamorous enough for Blanche to enjoy bringing her male suitors home to. The team also added some dusty pink to the room (the carpet), to make the bedroom more cohesive with the updates to the rest of the house. But Blanche isn’t the only Golden Girl who gets an homage here: Feast your eyes on Sophia’s iconic straw handbag, a purse fit for a queen.
