This House in England Looks Like a ‘Giant Wooden Spaceship’
After only a few months on the market, the unusually shaped Roundhouse in Deanshanger, England, listed for £900,000 ($1.1 million) is now sold, subject to contract. The home was featured on “Grand Designs,” a British TV series highlighting people building their dream homes themselves, in 2014.
During the episode in the fourteenth season of the show, the property was described as a “giant wooden spaceship, ” Curbed noted. Sure enough, the polished concrete floors, long wood beams lining the ceiling, gleaming white furnishings, and floor-to-ceiling windows lend a modern vibe to the unique home.
In terms of layout, the curved house encircles a brick courtyard. On the floor plan you can see that shared living areas like the kitchen, dining, and reception room are toward the center of the semicircle and flow into one another in an open plan that spans 58 feet. The brick courtyard behind the house is accessed via four sets of folding doors off the communal areas. The bedrooms are situated toward the ends of the house.
Each of the five bedrooms has an en suite. The master bedroom suite, which takes up one end of the house, has a dressing room, plus doors that open onto a private patio area. Bedrooms two, three, and four are on the other end of the house, past the reception room. Jutting out from the semicircle that forms the main part of the house is the fifth bedroom and a cozy cinema room.
The listing notes that the nearly 3,000-square-foot home sits on 0.8 acres of land and is surrounded by large, open fields, which gives the house a rural feel. At the same time, the timber-clad house is conveniently located about ten minutes from Central Milton Keynes. The “one of a kind, luxury designed property” boasts a “large, spectacular approach,” a kids’ playground, and a patio that’s prime for outdoor entertaining.
