“The Great British Baking Show” Is Back, and Twitter Has Never Been Happier
Hold on to your whisks, because “The Great British Baking Show” is back. The first episode of Season 7 (considered Series 10 of “The Great British Bake Off” in the U.K.) dropped on Netflix on Friday, August 30. This season is extra special because for the first time in history, the episodes will air on the streaming platform just days after they air on Channel 4 in the U.K.
This is a big deal because in the past, full seasons didn’t come to America until months, if not years, later. While we love our old tradition of binge-watching new-to-us seasons all at once, we’re excited that we get to avoid spoilers and be part of the action as it happens.
Week one was Cake Week, and the contestants (mostly) brought their A-game. There are 13 bakers this season who are eager to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with their signature bakes, technical challenge skills, and showstopper creations. It’s far too soon to predict a winner, but early favorites include Steph, Henry, and Michelle, who took home the title of Star Baker thanks to the scrummy flavors in her Fairy House Cake showstopper.
If you haven’t watched week one, proceed with caution, because spoilers are ahead. Starting with this set of pictures that makes perfect sense if you’ve seen the episode, but looks like a bunch of nonsense if you haven’t.
The general consensus is that viewers are just so happy the show is back.
People are very excited to see host Noel Fielding again.
Oh, and if you didn’t know, Noel is also the actor who played the character Old Gregg.
Others pointed out how the contestants on “The Great British Baking Show” are the opposite of contestants on American reality TV.
“Let’s have a look inside” is just one of the many catchphrases we’ve missed.
Some people pointed out that if you know you’re going to be on the show, you should probably know how to bake a genoise sponge.
While some had their eyes on the cakes, others were watching the credits and finding gold like this.
This tweet makes a strong case for a “Great British Baking Show” x “Fleabag” crossover episode. We don’t even know what that would look like, but we want it.
It wouldn’t be an episode of “The Great British Baking Show” without a bit of innuendo. Paul will probably never live this one down.
Even though Dan was the first baker to go home, he won over the viewers and he will be missed.
Next week is Biscuit Week, and we can’t wait to see what the judges have in store for the 12 remaining contestants. Maybe we’ll see our first Paul Hollywood Handshake?
