Hello Wood, a Budapest-based studio that specializes in temporary custom-built installations, has debuted new tiny cabins ideal for weekend retreats, festivals, camping, or personal spaces that could be built just about anywhere. Called a Kabinka cabin, the new project capitalizes on the tiny house movement and offers compact, versatile, and sustainable cabins at a reasonable price. It’s ideal for people who love nature retreats and prefer intimate, off-grid experiences over hotels or Airbnbs.

Kabinka draws on “rural architectural heritage” and comes in four sizes that range from 12 to 20 square meters, or about 129 to 215 square feet. It comes with a tea kitchen, bathroom, couch, and stove, with an interior that’s coolable and heatable. The floor-to-ceiling height of the basic, smallest cabin size is about 12 feet. It’s also customizable: extra features include, but aren’t limited to: partition walls, interior doors, loft beds, bathrooms (plumbing not included), shading module frames, and additional exterior cladding.

Designer Péter Pozsár served as head architect, Péter Oravecz served as project architect, and András Huszár, Dávid Ráday, and Krisztián Tóth provided additional creative concepts. The next step in the process is to create a flat pack kit so that cabin dwellers can assemble the Kabinka from prefabricated elements on their own. Pozsár cited the desire to market design cabins at a reasonable price as the inspiration behind Kabinka in a Hello Wood video interview. “Usually, design cabins look pretty cool [but] their greatest problem is that they are highly price-sensitive,” Pozsár said.

The designer continued, “Thanks to the extensive design and innovation efforts, Kabinka has matured into reasonably priced.” Oravecz added that it’s the modular size that makes it fully flexible and customizable, so that it could be constructed as a workstation, sauna, beach hut, and anything in between. It could even be built in a backyard (for when quarantining with others in the same house gets much too chaotic).
