Here’s Why You Can Only Buy Trader Joe’s Gift Cards in Store
As the holidays approach and you begin considering gifts, Trader Joe’s has issued a reminder about its gift cards. While you can find gift cards for some stores anywhere — in hanging displays at the ends of the aisles at your local grocery store, or in oversize cardboard placeholder form at Costco — Trader Joe’s gift cards are only available at Trader Joe’s.
“We do not issue or accept printable or digital versions of our gift cards,” reads the announcement on the Trader Joe’s website. “We choose this approach to better protect the original purchaser or recipient of our gift cards.”
While a grocery store gift card might not sound exciting, it’s extremely practical and versatile. Everyone needs groceries, groceries can be expensive, and Trader Joe’s especially has a cult following and tons of fun products — not just food, but also candles, skin care products, house cleaning supplies, and potted houseplants.
Also, does any other grocery store do seasonal goods as well as Trader Joe’s does? Closer to Christmas, it will have advent calendars for humans, cats, and dogs. For now, it’s pumpkin central with pumpkin spice coffee (which is actually just normal coffee with delicious fall spices, for those who aren’t into typical flavored coffees), pumpkin spice cookies, and even pumpkin spice face masks.

Just remember: If you’d like to buy a Trader Joe’s gift card or few this holiday season, you can only buy them in person at a Trader Joe’s store, and they can only be used in person as well, since Trader Joe’s doesn’t have an online store. Pair your gift card with a bottle of wine or Minty Mallows, and you can’t go wrong.
