Kitchens are the heart of the home. It’s where you prepare meals, break bread with friends and family, and unwind after a long day. On the latest episode of HGTV’s “Celebrity IOU,” LeAnn Rimes tapped the Property Brothers to help create the dream kitchen for her friend who loves cooking and entertaining more than anything. And with a bit of demolition, design planning, and black cabinetry, they created a dramatic, modern room that also might turn you onto the idea of a bold, black kitchen.

LeAnn Rimes wanted to do something special for Roger, who she had known for over 20 years. Roger helped the singer through some of the most difficult times in her life as her therapist, and she wanted to “brighten his life because he brightens so many people’s lives.” So LeAnn decided to thank him by turning his kitchen into an open space with a moody vibe that reflected his and his husband’s style.

Upon walking into the cooking space, Drew and Jonathan Scott noticed the awkward layout that they described as a “triple galley kitchen.” There was a strange TV wall that had a skinny island coming out of it, which split the room in half and made it uncomfortable to move around in.

After pretty much gutting the entire space, the Property Brothers and LeAnn planned out a design that was moody, modern, and elegant by leaning into an almost all-black kitchen. They installed an entire wall of black cabinets along with black marble countertops, plus a large black kitchen island to match. Finally, Drew and Jonathan added medium toned hardwood floors to contrast with the darker palette.

To open up the room further, the Property Brothers knocked down the large wall between the kitchen and a vacant room to create one cohesive area where they can cook and dine. They used the same hardwood floors in the dining space and added a metal wall divider with a geometric design to really bring the modern look home.

A large, round light fixture was installed over the brand new wooden dining table, with black chairs that continued the dark color palette. Last but not least, they added black and white abstract art on the walls for an extra design detail that tied the room together.

Additionally, the Property Brothers and LeAnn Rimes installed a massive glass sliding door that led to the new outdoor kitchen/lounging space, which you can see a glimpse of above. But to see the full transformation, you’ll have to catch the episode yourself.

Celebrity IOU airs Mondays at 9/8 central on HGTV.
