While it’s not out of the norm for HGTV experts to suggest knocking down walls, expanding your color palette, and investing in trendy wallpaper, this brilliant tip on upping your curb appeal was something you don’t hear every day. In the most recent episode of HGTV’s “Rock the Block,” the designers competing against one another tackled landscaping and overall enhancement of outdoor spaces — and the unexpected curb appeal further, the designers used “chic” crushed stone on the walkway that contrasted both the colors of the mulch and dirt. This led to some interesting conversations about getting away from traditional materials and looking outside the box when you are landscaping and creating outdoor areas.

Together, the mulch, dirt, and walkway created a more colorful “layered” feel in the outdoor space that designers kept complimenting. Instead of a simple flower bed and a single row of plants, playing with dirt and stone choices can lead to a multidimensional, spacious look.

Rock the Block airs on Mondays at 9/8 central on HGTV
