4 Easy Ways to Enhance Your Backyard for Cheap, According to HGTV Home Stagers
Whether it’s a yard, patio, balcony, or garden, outside areas — regardless of the size— became personal oases and hangout spots during the pandemic. And with nice weather fast-approaching, they’re about to get busy yet again, but they might need a low-lift refresh first. And that’s where Lyndsay Lamb and Leslie Davis of HGTV’s “Unsellable Homes” come to the rescue.
Whether you’re looking to spruce up your outdoor space for personal use, or want to give it a refresh to sell your home, the twin renovators have plenty of advice to share that they’ve given clients who are trying to attract potential buyers. And perhaps the best part about these tips — they’re all easy and cheap.
The first piece of staging advice they shared is installing a fire pit, or simply adding a portable one. If you weren’t one of the people who got in on the fire pit trend in the past year (many sold out pretty quickly), here’s your reminder to consider adding one. Another way to set the mood? Lamb and Davis also suggested adding outdoor bistro lights — dazzling and cheap.
Privacy is a major selling point when it comes to outdoor spaces. But if there aren’t any barriers separating you from your neighbors or the street, the twins say not to worry: you can create a sense of privacy on your own.
“One of the things that Leslie and I love to do is take old windows, hang those around the porch or in the yard,” Lyndsay told Apartment Therapy. “Create little barriers so that the buyer feels like, oh if I’m hanging out here in my backyard, I do have a little privacy.”
If you’re working with a tiny outdoor area — which is usually the case for urban dwellers — Lamb and Davis suggest maximizing any wall space you have. “In one of our episodes, Leslie and I built a trellis garden and attached it to the wall just so they could still have that little garden or if they wanted herbs,” Lyndsay explained. “They can still have that outdoor enjoyment without having this big grass backyard.”
