2026 is the year of “going analog,” and, man, I’ve bought into it completely. Needlepoint is my current hobby of choice when I want to be offline, and over the last few months I’ve gathered a number of canvases and an impressive collection of threads, supplies, and accessories. But I’ve also invested in more analog hobbies: I got a soap-making kit, paints for paint-by-number canvases, coloring books, and more.

It’s been fun dabbling in so many different hobbies — especially because all of them get me off my phone and working with my hands (anything to lower my screen time!). But wow, do I have a lot of stuff lying around. The joy of investing in a new hobby can have a downside when there’s no organization system put into place to keep your supplies contained. Clutter is a major buzzkill, which is why I’m so happy to have a dedicated space for all the things I love. Introducing: the hobby cabinet.

What Is a Hobby Cabinet?

In short, a hobby cabinet is exactly what it sounds like: a storage cabinet or hutch dedicated to storing all of your hobby supplies. This, of course, keeps everything contained, organized, and ready to use. Instead of having your hobbies scattered around the house, a hobby cabinet can act like a hub for your creativity. When it’s time to put work away, my hobby cabinet is the first place I go. It’s turned into a fun after-work ritual, and adding one to my home has brought me so much joy.

The Storage Gem I Use to Store All My Hobby Supplies

Once my supplies were getting out of control, I knew I needed an organization system put into place. I loved the idea of having a cabinet with glass doors — especially because my needlepoint canvases are so pretty to look at, and having them displayed in a beautiful way was essential. I ended up picking this cabinet from Wayfair, which has shelves behind glass doors, and two drawers for extra storage below.

Putting the cabinet together was a breeze; my husband and I tag teamed and got it done in an hour or two. I now have a cork board for needlepoint canvases that are displayed on the shelf, as well as room for my needlepoint bag and canvases in process, with plenty of room for more. The drawers below have needlepoint supplies, as well as art supplies for my other hobbies. I love it!

How to Create Your Own Hobby Cabinet

If you’re in need of some arts and craft organization (whether for you or your kids), having a dedicated space for supplies will bring some peace of mind, for sure. Pick a cabinet or hutch that is large enough for everything you’d like to store, and be mindful of visual clutter. I like the glass doors on my cabinet because my supplies are pretty to look at, but the drawers below are essential. Not all of my supplies are meant to be displayed, and it’s nice having space to hide things behind closed doors.

Once you have your cabinet, decide on the items you’d like to organize, and purchase any bins, baskets, or drawer dividers you may need. I’m excited to continue adding organizational tools as my collection grows — especially because it’s tempting to pack the shelves without any organization at all.

Finally, keep your cabinet somewhere you naturally hang out. The goal is to keep your hobbies somewhere accessible and front of mind. It’s fun to think about a hobby cabinet as a lifestyle shift instead of just storage — and making room for what you love is powerful. Having a home that supports the life you want to live can be life-changing. If you have a goal to be more creative, to spend more time doing leisure activities, or maybe you want to knock out a creative project a month, keeping your hobbies displayed and having dedicated space for them is a game changer.

Having a hobby cabinet is a great way to stay creatively inspired at home. Not only does it keep your supplies contained, but it can also encourage you to finish your projects instead of abandoning them. I know it does that for me! It’s made my home more beautiful, intentional, and calm — no more supplies scattered everywhere. Having multiple hobbies doesn’t have to mean more mess. Instead it can turn your home into a more creative space for you and your loved ones. Who doesn’t want that?
