Searching for a stylish trash can that’s both functional and chic is a bit of a chore — even more so than taking out the garbage itself. That’s where HomeGoods comes in, but not necessarily the section of the store you might be thinking of. According to one TikTok creator, the brand’s planters actually double as the perfect mini trash cans that go beyond plain old powder-coated metal or stainless steel bins.

In the TikTok video below, user @sarachabor shares how, instead of opting for traditional small trash cans, she browses the HomeGoods planters and vases for a more design-forward option. You can repurpose (or even upcycle) plant pots for a unique and creative twist that might just be the most stylish trash can hack I’ve ever come across.

From metal to ceramic to stone, there are so many different types of planter materials to choose from, all in a variety of styles and colors. Some even come with an insert — similar to a traditional trash can — that you can easily clean out between uses. Others have thin, tall silhouettes, ideal for space-saving garbage bin solutions

For added protection (or to prevent trash from falling through a drainage hole), you can also add a liner to the interior — which the original poster appears to have done with a HomeGoods planter in her own space, as seen at the end of the video. Or, if you want something with a lid, skip the planter section and go for a small covered basket instead.

Either way, this HomeGoods hack is an excellent way to spruce up standard trash cans and add a more decorative element to the bathroom, bedroom, office, and more. Plus, it’s arguably more budget-friendly, as HomeGoods planters are usually cheaper than most mini stainless steel trash cans.
