Laura Hebden is the brains behind Maven Collection. For years she’s traveled around the world looking for artisan textiles to sell in her shop and, as you can see, put in her apartment.
When Laura isn’t traveling she’s working from home, so she needed to make her space cozy and bright. This is especially important in the gloomy winter months in Chicago. Luckily, Laura gets great light from her western facing windows. She’s surrounded herself with plants to make her feel like she’s outside when it’s way too cold to leave the house.

Apartment Therapy Survey:
My Style: Bohemian Chic. My apartment is filled with found objects from flea markets and handmade textiles from my travels…Each piece tells a story or is linked with a memory. I get to travel a lot for work, so I am constantly shopping markets abroad to find more items to layer in my home (perk of the job!).
I’m a bit obsessed with plants. Living in the Midwest is really difficult during the winter months, so I’ve brought the outside in! I tried to create a calming retreat, and I definitely feel relaxed when I’m home. I also always have tranquil candles burning; the scent of a home is really important to me.
Inspiration: Bohemian rustic chic…Can that be a thing?!
Favorite Element: The Moroccan wedding blanket I have hanging up. There are actually a bunch of holes in it and some of the sequins have started to rust, but I love it for its imperfections! Probably ones of my favorite pieces I’ve found.
Biggest Challenge: It’s a rental, so you can only do so much to the space.
Biggest Embarrassment: I’m almost six feet tall, so I realized I have hung everything to be at my eye level…Whoops!
Biggest Indulgence: My rugs. When I’m on a buying trip, I have no self control! If I come across a one-of-a-kind beauty, I just have to have it.
My dining room table was also a splurge. I saw it in an antique shop in Chicago and HAD to have it.
Best Advice: Invest is staple pieces. Whether it’s an antique or a new piece, if it has meaning to you and you feel you will have it for years to come, it’s worth splurging on.
Dream Sources: Restoration Hardware couch and patio furniture!
