Stepping into interior designer Beth Brown’s home is like walking into a luxurious boutique. Not surprising, considering she grew up visiting her mom’s chic Buckhead jewelry store, Tassells, which sells inspiring wearable objects. She acknowledges that her mom is her biggest inspiration, “My mom always knows just the right thing to say, the thoughtful thing to do. She has impeccable taste and an incredible eye and is willing to take risks. She has taught me to appreciate beauty and doesn’t take herself too seriously.”

Beth’s appetite for sensuous fabrics in delicious patterns and her incredible commitment to an extremely scaled back color palette is her secret ingredient. Most of her home is outfitted in black and white or shades of gray. There are pops of color in the kid’s playroom and her daughter’s room is a barely-there blush, which is so subtle it reads as neutral. The curtains in the dining room are what dreams are made of and add so much tactility and softness to the sophisticated and glam room.

I love Beth’s use of geodes and crystals throughout, as well as her commitment to fine art photography and sculptural elements. Her lighting choices are perfectly curated for each living area and she leaves room for her children to evolve within their spaces, as well.

It’s fun to think about the many and varied pieces that come together in any one home and all the relationships that inform those decisions. Creating a home is about our connection to honoring family and friends past and present and to the objects we admire.

My Style: I’d say a transitional mix – I like elements of all styles – from mid-century modern to Hollywood glam to global influences. I like a little drama but everything needs to be comfortable.

We stumbled upon this home during an open house in our neighborhood (we lived three streets down) and I liked the layout and most of the finishes and architectural details. It has a little more space for our busy kiddos. The stars aligned with buying this house and selling our old one; before we knew it, we were in!

Inspiration: My mother. New York City. The South. Mother Nature

Favorite Element: My family filling the space. The open floor plan and the large windows with lots of natural light! My geodes and photos. I am lucky to have some classics from greats like Elliot Erwitt and Abelardo Morrell to local artists like Todd Murphy and Dorothy O’Connor.

Biggest Challenge: Culling down; I am a designer and am blessed to spend time surrounded by talented people and beautiful things. Choosing for myself can be overwhelming at times. I feel fortunate that this is my biggest challenge…

Biggest Embarrassment: Our empty living room; it’s going to be a while before there is furniture there. My kids love running around in it, however, and we find ourselves lounging on the placeholder shag rug in there a good deal.
