Name: Dana and Mitch
Location: North of Nashville, Tennessee
Size: 1,030 square feet
Years lived in: 1 year, owned

Dana and Mitch have settled into a small neighborhood full of local charm after buying their first home a year ago. The two-story house is on a small, quiet street, across from a church. And it's around the corner from quite a few antique shops, which is where Dana loves to shop. "I love to thrift things for our home and love the challenge of finding amazing pieces for a steal," she says.

Dana is a photographer and crafter. Her husband Mitch works in editorial and has a menswear blog. Combined, their creativity shaped their new home's style. They decorated each room beautifully, but also in a way that has meaning for the couple. Shelves house a collection of cameras, stacks of magazines are close by for inspiration. And crafting is easy thanks to neatly organized supplies.

Sitting out on the back porch as the cherry trees bloom on their one-acre property, it's easy to see why Dana and Mitch love their home.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: Eclectic, but in a kind of minimalistic way. A hint of boho, a nod to desert southwest, a strong lean towards MCM lines, and muted color palettes with some moody bursts of navy.

Inspiration: My go-to for inspiration is Instagram, Pinterest, and blogs. There's such an amazing community of creatives out there. I also love to thrift things for our home and love the challenge of finding amazing pieces for a steal.

Favorite Element: Our deck that faces a lovely acre. We love sipping coffee, working, and entertaining friends out here.

Biggest Challenge: Closet space — which generally comes with an older house, but also comes with a menswear enthusiast husband. Also, committing to paint colors and pillows.

What Friends Say: "Will you decorate my home?" Or "It's so cozy!"

Biggest Embarrassment: The kitchen. We hope to give it a nice facelift one of these days.

Proudest DIY: We try to DIY what we can, and last summer Mitch built sectional seating for our back deck for our housewarming party. It was our first DIY project we did together in our very first house. It's not perfect, but he made it and I supervised (okay, I helped a little). We are continually growing, learning, and really enjoy doing projects together.

Biggest Indulgence: My plant children! A fiddle leaf fig and some air plants were the first pieces I bought for our home. I feel that plants instantly make a home feel like one. I may not have successfully kept them all alive, which is why I try to buy plants under $10. Thankfully, I was given our huge rubber tree and snake plant. We had the hardest time moving them into our house, but it was worth it in the end.

Best Advice: Being a first time home owner I wanted to decorate and do all of our projects as quickly as possible, but I've learned we can't. So don't rush. Make a list for each room, prioritize, and tackle it as you can. Add things you love, not what you're willing to live with.
