I can never say no to a good Facebook Marketplace find, even if purchasing said find means engaging in a little bit of apartment Tetris — sometimes it feels like I’m moving furniture around on the daily! While scrolling through Marketplace over the holidays, I stumbled upon the most gorgeous wooden hutch, complete with a darling tassel, for just $200 and knew I had to make it mine.

While I was primarily drawn to the shape and style of the hutch itself, I was also thrilled to finally have a some functional glassware storage, too. I had been keeping some of my glassware in a credenza in my kitchen slash hallway (NYC apartment life!), but things were getting a little cramped. I also wasn’t loving how everything was hidden behind closed doors. Pretty wine glasses should be admired at all times, right?

After hiring a TaskRabbit to help me pick up the hutch and carry it into my walk-up apartment, I set up the piece in my living room, and I have truly been absolutely thrilled with it so far. The top shelves are great for housing liquors, wine holders, and yes, a bunch of my many glasses, while I keep things like table linens, candles, and coasters tucked away in the bottom two drawers.

I placed mine in my living room, but I feel like it’d be a great addition in a dining room or kitchen, too. Essentially, anywhere you’d have a need to stash and display pieces, you can put one of these — think mugs, serving bowls, or a tea set in a cook space or even books, knickknacks, or a collection in a living area or office. As far as the finish goes, keep in mind that warm wood furniture will continue to have a major moment in 2023. I’m so glad I secured a piece I love at a reasonable price point; items like this one are going to be hot this year.

If you’re also in the market for a similar piece, I suggest going the secondhand or vintage route like I did. You’ll come across so many beautiful, well-made items this way, and there’s something fun about owning furniture that you won’t see in your BFF’s living room. Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Chairish, Etsy, and local yard sales and estate sales are all excellent resources for acquiring wooden hutches of this nature.
