I cover all things shopping, from cleaning and organizing finds to decor and furniture that’s worth every penny. Your home says a lot about you, so I’m always curious about the things people choose to bring into their space — and aim to make it easier to find those things! I’ve written home and lifestyle content for Well+Good and Design Milk.

Despite the fact that I’ve worked from home since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, my WFH setup is forever a work in progress. I’ve been through my fair share of cheap desks that fit my cramped living space over the years; the flimsy materials never held up with time and regular use. I’ll admit that I didn’t expect to find such a high-quality option at IKEA — the Swedish superstore slays the small-space game, but isn’t exactly “forever furniture” — but I did in the store’s new BOLLPOJKE desk. It looks like a classic, heirloom piece!

What Is the IKEA BOLLPOJKE Desk?

The BOLLPOJKE desk has a clean, timeless design that’ll outlast the trends, and maybe even your other furniture, thanks to its sturdy solid pine construction (which is rare for IKEA!). The 35x23x30-inch desk features a blond-finished work surface and white X-framed legs, which give it a charming cottagecore look. There’s a slim open storage shelf to stash your laptop and other supplies, with a cutout at the back to keep cords and cables in check.

The BOLLPOJKE desk comes in a Pine/White and a Pine/Black colorway.

Why We’re into It

Solid wood furniture is hard to come by these days, especially when you’re shopping on a budget. This makes the BOLLPOJKE desk’s sturdy pine construction a total anomaly at only $150. Its solid desktop and sturdy X-shaped supports seem stable and built to last — qualities my tried-and-failed desks haven’t been able to deliver.

The BOLLPOJKE desk is sized right for small spaces, too. Its 35-inch-wide silhouette tucks seamlessly against a wall without taking up too much space, which is perfect for carving out a workspace within a bedroom or living room. Its sleek, no-frills design won’t overwhelm a small room with bulk, either; instead it gives the space a light, airy feel.

Between its light blond surface and farmhouse-inspired legs, the BOLLPOJKE desk looks like an heirloom piece you’ll keep in your home for years to come, which is something you can’t always say about IKEA furniture. I’d even say that the BOLLPOJKE desk is versatile enough to mesh with any decor aesthetic, from cottagecore and traditional to coastal and contemporary homes.
