This Homeowner Used an IKEA Curtain to Brilliantly Hide Under-the-Desk Clutter
With the rise of working from home and home offices, many have become used to setting up desks in their living spaces. Unfortunately, the clutter that comes with an office space is even more jarring when it’s at home, and people are in search of creative ways to cover up all the items that take up space on and around their desks. One Sydney homeowner, who turned one of her bedrooms into an office and art space, came up with a simple, super-cute way to cover up all her supplies, though, and all it requires is a creative reuse of a common store-bought textile.
Bertie Ocampo opened up her beautiful Sydney home in September in a house tour, and a standout decorating idea was the DIY curtain skirt hanging from her desk. “I tried to find a merchant in Sydney that sold pre-made curtain skirts, but I struggled to find one that was the right size, length and print that I wanted,” she wrote. So, she got creative and decided to make her own.
This DIY is easier than you’d think. For this project, Ocampo went to IKEA and bought the plaid GLANS HAGTORN curtain, which also comes in a green colorway, along with a curtain rod. She added two sticky-tape hooks under her desk to hold the curtain rod then hung the curtain on it. All she had to do after that was cut the curtain to the right length and get her local seamstress to hem it.
The end result fits fabulously into Ocamp’s eclectic style and makes it easy to access her supplies — all she has to do is sweep the curtain aside. The best part about this hack, of course, is that you can play around with different fabric lengths, textures, and patterns to suit your own style.
So if your WFH setup is starting to look a bit cluttered, head to your nearest IKEA (or favorite curtain store) and get your tools ready. You’ll love how much stuff you can keep out of sight with a DIY desk skirt.
