This Brilliant Bedroom DIY Is My All-Time Favorite IKEA Hack (It’s Perfect for Small Spaces!)
Last year, for IKEA’s 80th birthday, I scoured the web to come up with a list of 80 of my all-time favorite IKEA hacks — and needless to say, I saw way more than 80 in my search. But among the many impressive hacks I saw, this one always stands out to me as an all-time favorite for its problem-solving savvy.
DIYer Marcus Merta (@i.go.by.makke) was looking for something similar to a Montana Furniture nightstand for his bedroom, but it was out of his price range — so he took an IKEA VIKHAMMER he liked the size of and turned it into what he was envisioning with a few simple steps.
Marcus removed the legs from the VIKHAMMER, added half-round molding to the front, added a knob to the drawer, and spray painted it all pink. Then, he mounted his new legless nightstand to the wall for floating furniture that keeps all the storage potential but adds less visual clutter (and is way easier to clean under, too!).
I love this hack because it’s a reminder that — especially with flat-pack furniture — you don’t have to include the legs, especially if you’re going to do a little hacking and customizing. A wall-mounted nightstand can save on floor space if you have a crowded room and just provide a little elevated (pun intended) style. Marcus got his for about 95€, or $99.
