IKEA’s $20 Decorative Bowl Is an Instant Coffee-Table Conversation Starter
Although IKEA may be best known for its easy-to-build, affordable furniture, the brand also sells gorgeous decorative objects. From bold and beautiful mod vases to colorful candleholders and many items in between, there’s plenty of designer-looking decor for budget-friendly prices. And one of the latest pieces from IKEA to make waves (literally!) is a decorative glass bowl that looks more like a water feature than something you can put fruit in.
It’s called the HÄCKPOPPEL, and it might just become the most beautiful piece of decor you own. And because it’s a deep, almost teal blue, it’s a great transition piece from summer into fall. It’s that rich shade of blue that will look excellent with mustards, rusts, and olive greens.
What Is the IKEA HÄCKPOPPEL?
The HÄCKPOPPEL is an irregularly shaped shallow glass bowl that looks like a pool of water with ripples coming from the center. There are two versions of this dish: a brown one with a glass base and a blue version that sits flat. Swedish lakes inspired it, according to the IKEA listing, and it has a fluid shape that is meant to soothe you the way nature does.
The bowl measures just over 12 inches at its widest point and is only about an inch deep, which makes it great for holding fruit, candy, or keys, or to use as a pillar candle dish.
Why I Love It
“A beautiful piece,” one IKEA reviewer wrote. “I thought I would use it as a serving dish but am keeping it out with a few pieces of fruit on it so that I can enjoy it all the time.”
“The quality and design of the dish are outstanding! Great price. Dreamy color. Just love it,” another person wrote, with someone else adding, “This tray sits on my dresser and [is] perfect to put everyday jewelry in it. It looks great, practical, and very spacious!”
This bowl would also pair perfectly with the new turquoise glass bowl from the STOCKHOLM 2025 collection. It’s a mouth-blown glass piece that has a more modern shape, yet still looks like a pool of water. The blue and teal are so pretty when used in the same space, and both bowls look like high-end designer pieces. But the STOCKHOLM 2025 bowl is only $40, and the HÄCKPOPPEL bowl is just $20.
For comparison, similar glass bowls like this one from Wayfair are normally priced anywhere from $80 to well over $100. Although stunning, this bowl feels more like a display piece than something you can use every day because it doesn’t have much bowl space to work with. The IKEA bowls, on the other hand, are meant to be put to work!
Give your space a serene feel with the HÄCKPOPPEL glass bowl, and feel a wash of calm fall over you every time you grab a piece of fruit off the kitchen counter.
