Some IKEA hacks go so far above and beyond the standard “coat of paint and new handles” that they somehow become whole new pieces of furniture. This one, for example, started out as the ubiquitous Rast dresser and a salad bowl, and was transformed into an elegant, modern bathroom vanity with plumbing and everything.

I for one am impressed. IKEA Hackers user Clara Arnsberger started with the Rast, which has been turned into numerous other Rasts over the years, then added a Blanda Blank salad bowl as a basin, Lansa handles, Capita legs, and a faucet, plumbing, and wood to convert the dresser and salad bowl into an attractive and functional bathroom sink and vanity.

It also got a nice, shiny coat of teal paint.

All in all, the impressive project took only three or four days to accomplish, and the resulting vanity looks sleek and polished. No one would ever guess it was from IKEA, let alone that the basin started out as a salad bowl.
