When you think of a folding table, you probably think of those big, bulky ones found in garages and banquet halls — you know, the ones usually made of plastic and covered with some kind of tablecloth. Not exactly the type of thing you have if you live in a small house or apartment. But folding tables come in all shapes and sizes. There’s a new folding table at IKEA with a eucalyptus wood tabletop that folds up thin, small, and flat — and it’ll serve you well whether you’re at home, in your yard, at the beach, or out camping.

What Is the IKEA SOLUPPGANG Folding Table?

Part of IKEA’s new line of products meant for camping and other outdoor adventures, the SOLUPPGANG folding table is a small, short, rectangular table made of light eucalyptus wood with a steel frame and X-shaped legs, which allows it to fold up completely flat when not in use.

It costs $59.99 and measures 16.5 inches tall, 32.25 inches long, and 17.75 inches deep. For comparison, my couch is about 21 inches tall from arm to floor, so it’s not the type of table that would pair well with a standard chair; it’s better suited to occasions where you’d be sitting on the floor (or ground, if you’re outdoors) or on some sort of smaller chair or stool, such as the SOLUPPGANG folding stool designed to specifically pair with this table.

Why This Table Is Useful Almost Anywhere

Although this portable folding table is technically designed for outdoor use, it can be a helpful addition to your home as well — especially if you don’t have a lot of extra room. You could break out this handy table any time you need some extra surface space. Use it for dinner parties, game nights, gift-wrapping sessions, crafting, eating on the couch, or whatever else comes to mind. Just remember that it’s a bit lower to the ground.

Personally, I’d love to get this IKEA table to use on my roof. My apartment building has a lovely roof, and because I live on the top floor it’s easily accessible. The only problem is that once you’re up there, there’s nowhere to sit or set something down. Because the table is on the shorter side, I could easily bring a blanket along and have a cute little rooftop picnic without worrying about everything spilling everywhere. When I’m done, I can just fold it up and stash it away until the next time I need a little table in my life.
