IKEA is a budget shopper’s paradise for brilliant furniture and decor finds and productivity gems, but one of its most beloved products is a seemingly innocuous tote that IKEA shoppers in the know have transformed into a versatile storage carryall (and no, I’m not talking about the FRATKA). Priced under $3, the SPIRAK Shopping Bag hacks common organization woes in a durable, quiet luxury-coded cotton design that looks just as pretty on your shoulder as in your pantry — but you’ll want to stock up on this do-it-all gem ASAP.

Why You Need to Get the IKEA SPIRAK Shopping Bag Now

It’s your last chance to grab the SPIRAK shopping bag before they’re phased out in stores, because IKEA is quietly discontinuing this fan-favorite tote. Constructed out of sustainably grown cotton, this shopping bag is actually my preferred tote during the warmer months when the FRATKA can feel sticky and heavy. The light taupe material and light blue-trimmed canvas handles are the perfect neutral accompaniment to all my grocery store and farmers market outfits, but these bags also pull double duty for weekend trips, closet storage, and seasonal items.

While the SPIRAK isn’t quite as big as the FRATKA, this actually makes it a little bit more versatile for running errands. It can hold up to 13 gallons and 33 pounds in its 18.5-inch length, 9.5-inch width, and 17.25-inch height design. Personally, I love putting a few in my car trunk for big grocery hauls, but I also like bringing them with me in-store as well as on shorter trips to hold extra stuff that doesn’t fit in my weekender bag or carry-on. At home, the breathable cotton fabric makes it perfect for storing my bulky winter sweaters, throws, and holiday pillows in the back of my closet. As an added bonus, you can throw them in the wash whenever they get dirty.

Several IKEA shoppers also noted that the SPIRAK’s color and material make it the perfect blank slate for crafters who want to personalize their bag. You can stencil or paint them, or one person shared that they tie-dyed their bags. You can also embroider them or get personalized images printed on them as gifts for your friends, coworkers, or wedding party.

An Alternative to Shop if You Can’t Find the SPIRAK Shopping Bag at IKEA

Unfortunately, you’ll pay a significant upcharge if you try to buy the SPIRAK outside of IKEA, as these versatile totes are currently going for $12.95 a pop on eBay (a significant upcharge from their $2.99 price tag).

You can check to see if your closest IKEA has it in stock for pickup, or try to order the SPIRAK for delivery if you have a large IKEA order that qualifies. Otherwise, IKEA’s GÖRSNYGG bag has a similar look and shape (despite not being made out of a machine washable material). While it’s not constructed out of cotton, this popular tote, which also costs $2.99, has a neutral color and cute black-and-white striped handles.
