This New $15 Gauzy IKEA Blanket Is a Total Designer Dupe and Will Bring Your Bed Some Laid-Back Bliss
We’re officially 11 days away from the start of spring, not that I’m counting or anything. As the days get longer and the weather more, well, temperate (with any hope… at least here in the Northeast), one of the first places I always look to lighten up would have to be my bed. I tend to sleep hot, so you won’t find flannel sheets or a heavy-duty comforter on my bed at any time of the year. Most of the changes I make seasonally involve that last layer of decoration and dressing; specifically, I like to swap in a quilt for my duvet and add something super lightweight for the throw at the foot of my bed.
Quilts can be pricey, so I’m sticking with my regularly scheduled programming there, a Dusen Dusen checkered coverlet I scored at a sample sale last year. As for the throw though? I’m eyeing this $15 gauzy VALLKRASSING blanket from IKEA, an inexpensive upgrade that’s just the perfect misty turquoise color.
Blues are typically a hit in bedrooms for their natural serene quality, but as of late, I appreciate this hue even more for what it can evoke — for me, a hint of the seaside. I’m surrounded by concrete (luckily, Central Park is just a few blocks away), but breezy blues mentally take me to the beach, which feels far off, even if my closest one is just a subway ride away. I don’t necessarily want to spend a small fortune on a throw though, so that’s why the VALLKRASSING caught my eye. The super-soft, double weave cotton it’s made of creates an all-over crinkled effect. Combine that with those raw edges and its happy hue, and this throw just looks like spring: laidback, calm, and cool.
I’d also be lying if I said the fabric didn’t remind me a little bit of the popular Parachute Cloud quilt in the new colorway the brand created for Crate & Barrel. Of course, the VALLKRASSING, as a throw, doesn’t come close to the fluffiness or weight of Parachute’s bedding, but this designer dupe will certainly give your top of bed a similar light and airy look with its gauzy form. This throw is also very similar to the one used in Susana Ordovás‘ Madrid apartment (pictured up top), and I have to say, this IKEA throw would likely pair just as well with plain white bedding and statement wallpaper, too.
The nice thing about the VALLKRASSING is you can also use it as a throw on your sofa or over the arm of a chair. Because it’ll only set you back $15 and is machine-washable, you also don’t have to feel guilty if you want to trot it out as a picnic blanket or for an outdoor gathering either.
While the VALLKRASSING currently isn’t available in any other colorways, my guess is we’ll be seeing more soon. If you’re partial to this shade though, take a look at IKEA’s new arrivals. You’ll find this tranquil turquoise all over pieces for every room of the home, from storage bins to spray bottles and lots of different linens, for the bedroom and beyond.
