IKEA’s New Waterproof Speaker Is a Must-Have If You Sing In the Shower
IKEA is not just in the business of improving your home, they’re also in the business of improving your bathroom singing.
The Swedish furniture company has unveiled the VAPPEBY, a portable Bluetooth speaker that’s waterproof so you can blast out tunes in the shower. It measures three inches square by two inches thick and comes in three colors: black, red, and yellow. It can be connected to another version of the same speaker for a truly surround sound experience in the toilet.
“The fundamental goal with the new speaker was to offer quality sound in a versatile product that can really be used anywhere,” said Stjepan Begic, product design developer at IKEA.
For users who take long in the shower, you’ll be happy to know that VAPPEBY will have up to 80 hours of playback at 50 percent volume. Sorry, roommates.
The company also says that the silicon-coated device is quite durable, as it has an IP67 rating, which means that it can endure being submerged underwater for up to one meter for up to 30 minutes. IKEA, however, discourages users from testing the limits of the product’s water and dust resistance.
As for the design, it is uncomplicated, only having the necessary features—including a handy strap for showers with limited shelf space—required to listen to music in the bath.
“The speaker was designed with simplicity and clear functions in mind making it a very user-friendly solution. We hope customers will embrace the speaker, and we hope it adds value to their lives by enabling them to enjoy sound experiences from anywhere.”
VAPPEBY retails for $14.99, making it affordable to singers with small budgets, and will be available everywhere starting April. You can learn more about it at the IKEA website.
