IKEA’s New Lighting Collection Looks So Much More Expensive Than It Is

One thing about me is that I’ll leap at any opportunity to go to IKEA. Even if there’s nothing on my wish list, I’ll wander around the Swedish store’s showroom for home decor inspo and to see what’s new. So when my husband wanted to pick up a bookcase for his office, I didn’t need convincing. As soon as we got there, I left him to his errand and basically did a speed run through the store to see what newness I could find — that’s when I spotted the new VARPTROSS lighting series. 

Their organic modern aesthetic caught my attention right away. The slatted bamboo designs look earthy and elevated, and cast gorgeous linear shadows on the in-store display. If you’re looking for intimate, mood-setting lighting, then this is a collection you need to see. Just do it sooner rather than later; some pieces are already selling out. 

Designed by duo A Deo/A Fredriksson, the VARPTROSS collection is four pieces strong — a wall lamp, floor lamp, pendant lamp, and a table lamp — and ranges from $30 to $110. But the collection’s warm minimalist design looks at least double, if not triple, that, with thin bamboo slats artfully layered to create a diffused glow with cool, linear shadows. The bamboo slats are then rounded at the top and bottom, giving the lights a soft, sculptural effect. They’re decorative, but don’t demand the spotlight (no pun intended), making them a stylish yet understated way to round out rooms of any style, from modern to boho.

I mean, just look at them: They’re stunning. The curved bamboo shape and slatted exterior are so unique, they bring sculptural and textural interest to a room, without overpowering the space completely. The shadows they cast on the walls create a cool, intimate atmosphere, too — perfect for setting the mood or hosting an intimate, low-key get-together. 

It’s impossible to pick favorites, but I’m personally eyeing the VARPTROSS Wall Lamp for my entryway or my bedside (then I can have one fewer thing on my nightstand!). It’s the perfect little accent light for my dark, narrow entryway and would beautifully illuminate the pages of my book during my nightly reading sessions. And IKEA shoppers agree: “Love this light! Perfect lamp to add some warm light to a room,” wrote a customer in her review. “Easy install and great quality.”

I also adore the VARPTROSS Floor Lamp: Its sleek, pillar silhouette is small-space-friendly, but still brings visual impact to a room. “Such a striking lamp,” wrote one IKEA shopper. “We really like it, and it goes so well with our bamboo nightstands. It works well and really is a statement piece in our bedroom.” The only thing is that it (and another VARPTROSS favorite, the table lamp) are going in and out of stock — so if you see it’s available online, I wouldn’t wait!
