Ina Garten Eats the Exact Same Simple Breakfast Every Day — For Years (It Transports Her to Paris!)
It should come as no surprise that here at The Kitchn, we love Ina Garten and everything she does — from her simple yet incredibly delicious recipes (especially her pot roast!) to her foolproof hosting tips. Naturally we are curious about everything she likes to eat, including her go-to breakfast. And so was Amy Poehler, who asked the culinary icon this question on a recent episode of her podcast, Good Hang.
Turns out Ina’s a creature of habit; she revealed that she goes through phases of having the same breakfast, every single day, for over a decade. “I have the same thing I always have. I go for years with one breakfast, and then I switch, and I go for years with another breakfast,” Ina shared with Amy.
So what’s her current fixation? “I always have whole-grain toast with really good butter. I love French butter. And coffee … with milk.”
How easy and simple is that? We’ve also tried Ina’s favorite French butter before (Beurre de Barratte), and were blown away by its “almost cheese-like” texture and its “savory notes and delicate saltiness.” It’s a simple breakfast we could easily get behind. Ina’s current go-to breakfast is likely influenced by the time she spends in Paris, a place she dreams of living one day (which she also revealed on the podcast). Her former favorite breakfast that she stuck to for over a decade was oatmeal.
Another thing she always has? Tea at 10:30 on the dot. “I start drinking tea around 10:30. Not at 10:29, not 10:31, but at 10:30 my brain goes — tea!” Ina said. Similarly, she loves “really good French tea,” and likely won’t have any more coffee for the rest of the day. While we don’t know exactly which tea is Ina’s favorite, these options from Palais des Thés would probably do the trick. I’m curious to see what breakfast will be next in her rotation in a couple years’ time.
