For the first time ever, the City Palace of Jaipur—located in the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan—will open the doors of its opulent Gudliya Suite to outside guests after having previously been exclusively occupied by royals and their invited guests. This extremely special invitation official makes His Highness Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh the first King-turned-Airbnb host. (We’re going to go out on a limb and assume he’s researched all there is to know about how to Airbnb host in advance.)
The private suite inside the palace accommodates two guests. It features one bedroom, one bed and a private bathroom, a kitchen and an indoor swimming pool. But before guests even set foot on the palace grounds, the royal treatment begins at the airport where a chauffeured car will transport them to their suite. Upon arrival, a private butler will greet guests and handle any special requests such as travel arrangements, sightseeing trips and restaurant recommendations. The stay also includes a gourmet breakfast and dinner with tailored menu, set to take place at Baradari, the City Palace’s in-house restaurant. Additionally, a royal staff member will take guests on a guided tour of the 300-year-old palace.
And now for yet another groundbreaking detail: The normal going rate for a night in the Gudliya Suite is $7,939. However, on select nights between November 23 and the remainder of 2019, guests can book the space for $1,000 a night. Proceeds from the bookings will go to the Princess Diya Kumari Foundation, a nonprofit that works to improve the lives of disadvantaged women in Rajasthan. Airbnb will cover the remainder of the balance for every discounted booking; those proceeds will also go to the foundation. From January 1 on, the suite will be available for booking at its regular rate.
