Kellie Brown's Stylish 700-Square-Foot LA Apartment | House Tours

When lifestyle blogger (and founder of And I Get Dressed) Kellie Brown lived in New York—in Manhattan’s Sugar Hill area—her two-bedroom rental apartment was a soft and serene space perfect for a busy entrepreneur to run a business out of. When she recently made the move to Los Angeles, she brought her signature style to this rental apartment. Both places are excellent examples of how to make a good-looking home in a temporary rental.

Located in Los Angeles’ Miracle Mile neighborhood, this apartment is smaller than her New York one, but loads of natural light, tall ceilings, and Spanish-style architectural details make it feel a lot bigger than it is. As with her New York home, the color palette is mostly neutrals, creating an airy, soothing atmosphere. But this time she’s had a little more fun with color—hello very gorgeous pink sofa splurge—and added in cute ’70s and ’80s inspired accessories. The look is cool and collected… and filled with great ideas on how to make a temporary rental look like home, exactly what Kellie always intended this apartment to be.

Though light filled and lovely, Kellie knew she’d eventually need more space than this unit provided. “I had a two-bedroom in NYC and I wanted to make sure I liked living in LA one year before finding my ‘dream place,'” she explains. After a year renting this bright space, Kellie’s made the move again, though she’s still in LA. You can see sneak peeks of her newest space on her popular Instagram account @itsmekellieb, as well as get more style inspiration from her website, And I Get Dressed, her other Instagram account, @andigetdressed, and her YouTube channel.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: My style is an eclectic mix of vintage finds mostly from the ’70s and ’80s. This particular apartment is sort of my California meets “Golden Girls” hideaway.

Inspiration: I was really inspired by the Spanish style architecture, lots of color, and old photos of really chic homes in the 1980s.

Favorite Element: My favorite element is the actual bones of the apartment. As a New Yorker living in LA, it’s so cool to have these Spanish archways and built-in bookshelves.

Proudest DIY: It’s not so much a DIY but I do love this thrifted seashell lamp that I found the perfect contemporary lampshade for; it came together really nicely.

Biggest Indulgence: My pink sofa was definitely my biggest indulgence. I knew I wanted a super comfy but visually impactful sofa and I wanted it to be a fun color so I chose pink and it has been really fun to live with.

Best Advice: The best advice I can offer is to take your time and really curate your space. We often have the urge to fill up a space quickly rather than think about the design and what we want to live with.

What’s your best home secret? My best home secret is to purge regularly. It’s good to go through your things and decide what to keep and what should go. It really helps keep clutter down!
