I absolutely despise buying things just because “I’m supposed to” — extra TV warranty plan, I’m looking at you. I prefer to buy based on a need or a desire, especially when it comes to home decor and storage solutions. When we bought our first home, we were lucky enough to find one that came with an oversized garage. Because of this, even after we designed our dream backyard, I was resistant to investing in a deck box for storage because we figured it was easy enough to just toss everything onto the shelves and inside old bins in the garage. For starters, I didn’t think any deck box could hold as much as it advertised and I wasn’t convinced they were worth the money. Well, let’s just say things have changed.

The longer we lived in our home, the more the giant pile of stuff in our garage began to build — and this spring when we pulled out all of our outdoor decor and couch pillows, I could finally see that they needed a better home. They were covered in dust and random stains and smelled the opposite of fresh. Some of our favorite lanterns had fallen over and been damaged, and our patio planters were covered in a spooky amount of spider webs. It was time to cave and try out a deck box — so we could store our outdoor decor safely together and away from the jungle that was now our garage.

On my mission to find a deck box that could actually live up to its promise, I landed on the Keter Java 230 Gallon Deck Box, which had lots of rave reviews and the extra large capacity we were looking for. We were impressed from the moment we unboxed it. Now, as summer comes to a close here in New Jersey, I’m sharing why I’m officially a deck box convert, just in time for you to decide if you need one, too, to help you pack up and store your favorite outdoor decor safely and in style.

What makes the Keter Java 230 Gallon Deck Box perfect for outdoor storage?

Reviewers across the internet rave about its storage capacity and durability, and for good reason.

This all-weather resistant deck box can be stored outside or inside a home, attic, or garage. It’s oversized, so you can store all your most fragile outdoor pillows and fragile decor — like lanterns, candles and tabletop torches — in one easy to find place. It took us just minutes to assemble and the directions were super easy to follow. The classic rattan look means it’s not an eyesore if you need to rest it on your porch or patio. Despite its substantial size — my athletically built husband can fit inside of it, with room for me, too — the Java Deck Box opens and closes with ease so you can use it to store items nightly or over the change of seasons. Plus, it’s lockable (lock not included) if you want to double down on securing your belongings and has built-in ventilation so your stored items don’t accumulate moisture even after it rains.

What impressed us most is the size and quality of the Java Deck Box — the 230-gallon capacity holds all of the outdoor pillows for our sectional and a few of our knickknacks, too. Even though our yard is rather small and cozy, we have a few more pillows and decor pieces than most, so we’re planning to buy a second one to store in the garage next season. We got our first one in gray (graphite), but it’s also sold in brown.

What is the Keter Java Deck Box best used for?

If your outdoor decor collection is growing and you don’t have much closet, garage or attic space to store it, consider a deck box — and this one in particular, if you have larger outdoor pillows and items to store. It’s a great way to keep your outdoor decor nearby during the summer months or store it away for good throughout the winter. It rained on and off for days, and our items stayed safe and dry.

Remember when shopping for a deck box that it’s an investment piece — just like a closet organizer or industrial storage bins — and you get what you pay for. The Keter Java Deck Box is worth the price to keep the investment we’ve made into our dream backyard safe and clean for the colder seasons.
