Modern bathroom with a black countertop, chrome faucet, and a yellow towel hanging on a wooden ladder shelf.

I have almost no counter space in my small bathroom, which means every time I need to put something down — a makeup brush, a hairbrush, or jewelry — I end up awkwardly balancing it on the sink ledge or carrying it into another room. It’s a daily annoyance that has me brainstorming solutions. That’s when I thought of putting a utensil rest in the bathroom. It’s a surprisingly smart, versatile little tool that could be the perfect fix.

Why You Need a Kitchen Utensil Rest in Your Bathroom

A silicone utensil rest, like this one on Amazon with a built-in drip pad and four slots, can corral small items and keep surfaces drip-free, and then you can toss it in the dishwasher to sanitize. You can even label each slot for different family members or categories if you’d like. Here are just a few of the ways you can put one to work.

Keep makeup brushes clean and accessible.

Instead of letting makeup brushes roll around on the counter — or, worse, touch germy surfaces — rest them horizontally across the slots. It keeps the bristles clean and dust-free, and they’re easy to grab when you’re getting ready. The silicone texture also doubles as a gentle scrubber when you’re washing your brushes. Lather, rinse, and then let them dry in the slots. The bristles stay perfectly shaped while they air-dry.

Store a small hairbrush within reach.

A small hairbrush fits neatly in one of the slots. It stays off the counter (less bacteria!) and right where you need it for a quick post-shower touch-up.

Corral toothbrushes (and avoid messy drips).

Each brush gets its own slot, and any drips land on the easy-to-wipe tray instead of on your sink ledge.

Keep jewelry safe from the drain.

If you’ve ever lost an earring or ring to the sink drain, you know the panic. Use the drip tray as a safe landing spot for rings, earrings, or bracelets before you hop in the shower — no more balancing them on the faucet or edge of the sink.

Tidy up loofahs in the shower.

Stick the utensil rest to your shower wall using adhesive hooks or strips and hang loofahs or shower scrubbies from the raised sections. It keeps them from sitting in puddles and makes wiping down the shower much easier.
