I’m Using a Linen Sheet in My Bathroom — the Result Is Surprisingly Gorgeous
Top sheets, also known as flat sheets, are one of those things that you either love or hate. Some people just don’t see the point in them, whereas others see it as a necessary barrier between themselves and the comforter or quilt. If you fall into the former crowd, then you probably have a stack of top sheets taking up space on some shelf in your home. It’s finally time to put those unused top sheets to work — but not in the bedroom.
“Please tell me I’m not the only [one] that hates top sheets but can’t seem to get rid of them,” Instagram content creator Chloe Rey wrote in a recent caption. “I was able to hang this linen one extra high, too. 10/10.”
Rather than turn to a traditional shower curtain, Chloe used a linen flat sheet as a shower curtain alternative — and the result is airy, beautiful, and luxurious perfection.
How to Hang a Top Sheet in Your Shower
This DIY hack’s results vary depending on how big your top sheet is. A king-size bedsheet, for example, will be much more voluminous than a full-size sheet. However, hanging them is the same process — no matter the size.
Rey folded the top edge of her sheet over just enough to keep the bottom hem of the sheet off the floor. Then, she used curtain clips to keep this fold in place, attaching the curtain to her shower rod. The fold at the top looks intentional and creates a sweet ruffle effect. And because the linen fabric is airy and natural, the sunlight from the window above the shower filters into the space in a really pleasant way.
Should you choose to copy this tip, keep the fabric safe from moisture by using a plastic shower liner behind the sheet. But if your sheet is made with natural woven materials, any dampness will dry within a few minutes.
Using a top sheet in place of a traditional shower curtain is such a great idea that you might find yourself shopping for linen top sheets specifically for this purpose. This one from Banana Republic is on sale right now, and comes in the most gorgeous natural colors.
Top sheet haters, don’t ditch those flat sheets just yet! They might just find a new (and improved!) home in your bathroom.
