We get it: Sticking to a budget often feels impossible when it comes to home decor. You walk into the store to grab one picture frame, and before you know it, your cart is full of three cute throw pillows, a fuzzy blanket, four extra storage baskets, and enough scented candles to last you the rest of the decade. But revamping your living space doesn’t need to cost you an arm and a leg—there are plenty of amazing upgrades that you can make without spending more than $100. Below are a few of our favorites.

Add Some Life to Your Space with a Plant or Two

Visiting your local hardware store or nursery and picking up a leafy new buddy will add some life and color to your space. Sure, plants might be extra popular at the moment, but greenery never goes out of style. If you have some extra room in your budget, you can display your new plant babies in stylish pots or baskets (we love this one from Amazon, and at just $14, it’s an amazing deal).

Layer a Patterned Rug Over a Neutral One—or Vice Versa

There are tons of stylish rug options on the market, but it’s still hard to find full-sized rugs that ring up under $100. If you’re looking to make a bit of a change to your floor situation while still sticking to a budget, layering is the way to go. Pick up a smaller piece and place it atop an existing jute, sisal, seagrass, or other neutral rug for some added oomph. Etsy offers tons of gorgeous Turkish rugs that are on the smaller side and would look beautiful. You can also gather inspo from the above image and layer a simple sheepskin over a patterned piece. Max cozy!

Invest in Something Functional

You probably spend a decent amount of time in your living room, whether you’re catching up on TV shows, curling up on the couch with a book, or eating dinner at the coffee table (hey, just keeping it real!). So why not pick up a piece that will make your time spent in this space all the more enjoyable? I recently snagged this drink table on sale from West Elm and have been super happy with my purchase. It’s the perfect space to set a cup of coffee or glass of wine while relaxing on the couch, and the gold and marble makes it super classy looking to boot.

Change out Your Pillow Covers

There’s no need to blow your money purchasing entirely new throw pillows when you can simply order new covers to place over the ones you already own. Amazon, Etsy, H&M Home, and many other affordable stores offer a wide variety of pillow covers that will help you scratch that “always wanting to rearrange” itch. This is a great way to spruce up your space for each new season, too.

Build a Bookshelf

It’s time to finally empty those boxes of books and place them on the shelves you know they deserve. Adding a bookshelf to your living room is great for multiple reasons—first of all, a little bit of organization never hurt anyone, and second of all, a bookshelf adds welcome visual interest and will always be an instant conversation starter when guests come over. Bonus: Keeping your books front and center will remind you to slow down and pick up a fresh read every now and then.
