If there’s one store I know my way around, it’s a Marshalls. I spent hundreds of hours wandering the discount retailer’s aisles with my grandmother as a kid shopping, looking for new blouses, vases, shoes, space-efficient organizers, toys — you name it. Fun fact: My grandparents moved twice throughout my childhood, and each time looked for homes that were walking distance to a Marshalls because my grandmother never learned how to drive (that’s how much she loved it!).

Marshalls has plenty of budget-friendly household essentials, including an unexpected but totally awesome food and drinks aisle. The selection is always changing, making every visit a fun treasure hunt. If you aren’t checking it out while you’re there, you’re totally missing out. It has excellent sauces, snacks, and more soon-to-be pantry staples. Don’t believe me? Check out these three fantastic finds from my latest trip.

1. Monte Pollino Arrabbiata Marinara Sauce, $5.99 for 24 ounces

If you’re unfamiliar with Marshalls’ food aisle, then you need to check out its selection of specialty sauces. I’ve had some of the best pesto of my life from Marshalls, and this time I picked up a fancy new marinara sauce that is SO GOOD! The ingredients are refreshingly simple (tomatoes, onions, sunflower oil, basil, olive oil, red hot peppers, garlic, and black pepper), but the combination is anything but. The tomato flavor is strong and complemented by lots of garlic and pepper (my favorite!). I used it this morning to make a quick shakshuka and will be throwing it on some pasta tonight (I can’t wait!).

2. Nutty Fruity Chili Tamarind Bites, $4.99 for 7 ounces

My favorite part of Marshalls’ food section is its wide selection of candies and snacks. Just this week I tried these tamarind candies that are sweet, sour, and have a bit of spice. I can’t get enough of them! They’re chewy, have a slight heat (that builds as you eat more of them), and are tangy. I wish I snagged a few extra bags (if I had known I would’ve snagged at least three).

3. Grandma Hoerner’s Red Pepper Jelly, $4.99 for 14 ounces

Marshalls also has such a fun selection of ever-changing jams and preserves. This week, I tried my hand at Grandma Hoerner’s Red Pepper Jelly, and it was TASTY! It’s got a great heat-to-sweet balance going on that I’ve been eating with crackers and cheese but am plotting to turn into a fantastic grilled cheese sandwich this week.
