Name: Martina & Lola
Location: Madrid, Spain
Room Size: 49 square feet

When Bea first saw her home, she fell in love with this room – the biggest in the house – and decided to give it to her daughters Martina and Lola. She had always dreamt of a big and bright room for them, and set about filling it with the things they loved – festive garlands on the ceiling, a little seating area for reading bedtime stories, and a lovely light-filled art corner. What resulted is a bright, airy, beautiful space for her two little girls.

How would you describe the look and feel of this room?

I would describe it as a cozy and bright party room. One of my favorite quotes is, “Start each day like is your birthday,” and that’s want I wanted to do for the girls, because every day can be a party itself.

What is your favorite piece or element?
The pompom garland, my daughters’ photographs, the little kitchen, the print and the abstract painting. I cannot just choose one – I have so many! But I really like the garland on the ceiling.

What was the biggest challenge decorating this room?
Decorate it with many details without it feeling too saturated.

What do your friends say about the room?
They love first of all the size and the light – it is so bright and cozy. Then they fall in love with the decorations and with details such as the garlands, wallpaper, Lola’s photographs, and the little art corner.

Do you have any advice for parents creating a room for their child?
Yes, try not to decorate the whole room at the same time – do it little by little. Take your time, live in the room, look around, mix styles and let your child be part of it.

If money were no object, what’s your dream source?
Maybe a nice painting. I would love to have Enzo Mari’s giant red apple print.
