When I moved into my current apartment, I gained a whole new appreciation for rugs. They cover up my laminate wood floors (which, admittedly, aren’t in great condition) and, most importantly, they add a decorative touch to the space and give it some much-needed character. But if you’ve ever shopped for a rug before, you know they can be incredibly pricey.

Which is why I just about lost it when I found this Vintage Border Washable Rug at Michaels, of all places. The 2’x6’ runner is only $30, which is kind of unheard of for a rug. Here’s why I’d highly suggest picking it up ASAP.

What Is the Michaels Vintage Border Washable Rug?

The Vintage Border Washable Rug is made by Michaels’ sub-brand, Ashland, which primarily focuses on home decor. Inspired by traditional Turkish rugs, it features a medallion design and an intricate border with floral details, and it’s slightly faded for a distressed, vintage look.

The 100% polyester rug has a thermoplastic rubber backing to help prevent slipping. It’s also machine-washable — just set it on a cold, delicate cycle. Pretty impressive for only $30!

It’s available in two colors (pink and green), and three sizes (2’x3′, 2’x6′, and 5’x7′). Prices range from $20-$50.

Why We’re Into It

A vintage rug can easily cost hundreds of dollars, so the fact that this rug is only $30 is unreal. It doesn’t have many reviews yet (it must be new!), but the accessible price point makes it a pretty low-risk purchase in my opinion. It’ll give me that antique, one-of-a-kind look for way, way less.

The rug’s muted color palette (and vintage-inspired aesthetic) is totally timeless, too. There are bits of light rose and terracotta, gray-blues, and cool beige throughout, which would bring a touch of warmth and color to my space without clashing with any of my other decor.

If you have pets or kids, or if you’re as clumsy as I am, a washable rug is a non-negotiable. And the fact that this one doesn’t require any separate padding also means that the entire thing can just be chucked into the wash for easy maintenance. Besides, getting a rug professionally cleaned isn’t cheap!
