This $40 Mid-Century Modern-Inspired Lamp Looks Straight Out of a Designer Store
IMHO, mid-century modern style is one of the most ubiquitous, timeless, and long-lasting design aesthetics of them all. I mean, I’m biased because I’ve filled my home with items inspired by that era — but even if I hadn’t, it still seems like the style everything goes back to. Maybe it’s because of the use of natural materials? Or the neutral, wood-filled color scheme? Or the mixing of metals? Regardless, I’m always pleased when I spot a new find that has any of those characteristics.
So when I spotted the $40 mushroom shape-adjacent, chrome lamp in Catherine Taveras’ apartment, it took some serious self-control not to add it to my cart immediately. (I’m trying to shop less.) I knew it must be important, too, because Catherine downsized from a 2,000-square-foot house to a 250-square-foot Brooklyn apartment and has a much smaller footprint to work with. If this light makes the cut, then it must be special.
Even with the Home’s Tiny Size, She Made Room for This $40 Lamp
During the House Tour, Catherine said her biggest challenge was finding enough storage space for her items. Spoiler: She came up with several clever solutions, and while her home is definitely maximized to its fullest potential, it doesn’t feel either cluttered or empty. It’s the perfect balance, and I think that’s because of the inclusion of functional items and more decorative objects like this Amazon lamp.
Catherine admits that her favorite feature of the apartment is the wooden windows because they add “character and warmth” to the space. She chose to display the $40 mid-century modern lamp on the ledge beneath the window, putting it front and center in the living room.
This Mid-Century Modern Lamp Combines Chrome and a Mushroom Shape
What makes this somewhat mushroom-shaped lamp work so well for small spaces is its sleek design. For starters, the chrome base is skinny and acts as a mirror, bouncing light from the window onto other parts of the room. The handblown glass top is white (six color options are available), which is easy on the eyes in a small room. Another bonus? The bulb it comes with is dimmable so that you can adjust the light to fit your mood.
Knowing that Catherine has one-eighth as much space in her apartment than her prior full-blown house makes every item in the home important and necessary. If you’re looking for a small-space lamp or just a gorgeous mid-century-modern object, consider this lamp. To see more of how Catherine organized her home, visit the full House Tour.
