After buying the home in 1995, the owners began to cover the brick facade of the split-level home with pieces of mirror to mask the dark exterior, reports TribLIVE. Now, driving up to the home is like pulling up to a house-shaped disco ball.
In listing photos, you can see how the mirror siding reflects the grass, sidewalks, and trees all around it, turning the exterior into a pixelated echo of the land it lives on. If you cherish mid-century modern architecture for its ability to blend built spaces with the outdoors, you’d love coming home to this eccentric reflection.
In his effort to bring in lots of natural light, the current owner also added skylights throughout the home — there are 25 skylights in total. While you’re looking up, you’re also bound to see mirrors all over the ceilings.
The dining room is a stunning example: Glassy rectangles cling to the walls, surround the skylights, and adorn the ceiling to the point that you can scarcely see the white walls peeking out from behind them.
Another motif throughout the residence is black-and-white, due to the owner’s “passion for black-and-white photography,” according to TribLIVE. You’ll spot it in the two-tone subway-tiled wall of one bedroom, or the modern zebra-esque pattern that covers the walls of one bathroom (which also features a sunken bathtub).
The home isn’t just visually interesting, though. You’ll find a home theater with a state-of-the-art sound system and 9-foot projection screen, an art studio, and a zen oasis of a backyard. Sink into a chair on the deck underneath a wooden pergola and see yourself reflected in the mirrored bricks.
