Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: My husband, Richard, and our French Bulldog, Sophie, share our home. We’ve had to get creative entertaining ourselves during Covid and luckily, having a new home to decorate and DIY for has been just the ticket!

As a Southern California native, I’ve found that influences of the beach feel like home. We chose a soft and neutral color palette, layered with organic textures, to create an open yet cozy space.

For the holidays, we wanted our decor to add to this scheme, rather than fight with it, so we carefully selected items that matched the neutral colors and materials that felt natural to the beach vibe.

Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Modern farmhouse, SoCal style, dressed for the holidays

What is your favorite room and why? The living room. I love decorating the open shelves and contrasting the clean modern lines with rough, organic objects. For the holidays, we mixed in our collection of new and vintage bottlebrush trees and a few other objects that injected the Christmas spirit.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? Our tree accessories! This woven straw tree topper was PERFECT for the look we were going for. These mixed ivory ornaments added the perfect pop of texture to our white-modern tree. This tree basket matched so well, it looks like it was made for the tree.

Any advice for creating a home you love? Embrace your home for what it is and enhance its beauty, don’t hide it. For the holidays, it was tempting to go all snowy and ski-lodgy with plaids, wool, and pine but it wouldn’t have looked natural with our So-Cal home. It may be more challenging when sourcing the decor, but it will always produce the best results!
