Netflix’s Halloween Calendar Delivers a Different Scary Movie Every Day
Netflix knows that their users want to be scared throughout October—in fact, there’s a nearly 50 percent increase in horror viewing during the month. To help meet this need, they’ve made a terrifying calendar of nightmarish movies to get you through to Halloween.
The calendar highlights new and classic titles coming to the streaming platform, including old favorites like The Shining, The Sixth Sense, The Conjuring, and more. Plus, the calendar denotes new Netflix originals dropping all month, such as:
Malevolent, a Netflix original film, is out October 5. Per Netflix, “Brother and sister team Angela and Jackson are nothing more than scam artists. Preying on the grief stricken and the vulnerable, they convince the bereaved that Angela has the ability to contact the dead. It’s a simple con, until Mrs. Green summons the pair to her home — the orphanage that was once stage to a string of murders of young girls — and Angela grows less and less certain of what’s actually real.”
The Haunting of Hill House, out October 12, is a modern reimagining of Shirley Jackson’s iconic novel of the same name. It explores a group of siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house in the country. Now adults, the family must finally confront the ghosts of their past.
Haunted comes to Netflix from the producers of The Purge franchise and Lore. Coming out October 19, it gives a chilling glimpse into the first-person accounts from people who have witnessed supernatural events and other unexplained phenomenons that continue to haunt them.
For those who love Halloween but also love sleeping at night, check out the Sabrina the Teenage Witch revamp instead. Part one of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, a dark re-imagining of the Archie comic, drops October 26. Melissa Joan Hart isn’t in it, but Kiernan Shipka, aka Sally from Mad Men, is!
If you can’t decide which ones are for you, Netflix created a handy flow chart and scare factor matrix to help you figure out your own perfect binge.
Enjoy these and the rest of the calendar’s offerings. Maybe you’ll finally be able to sleep again by the time Netflix’s holiday movie catalogue starts to drop.
