A few years ago, I came across a big box of hand soap at Costco that immediately caught my eye. Initially, I thought, if the soap is good, great — but what I really saw was an opportunity for the bottles. The dark brown glass bottles looked classy and fit the aesthetic of my home perfectly.

My plan was simple: Use up the soap, then repurpose the bottles for other household products. But here’s the twist: I ended up loving the soap itself. Like many Costco finds though, it was available one day and gone the next. Luckily, I tracked it down and found it available from several other retailers. That soap in question? Newport Home Hand Soap.

What Is Newport Home Hand Soap?

Newport Home Hand Soap is a California-crafted hand soap infused with coconut oil and essential oils that gently cleanse while leaving skin feeling soft and lightly fragranced. Each 21.5-ounce soap comes in an elegant amber glass pump bottle that’s perfect for everyday use in kitchens, bathrooms, or guest spaces — and the best part? The bottles are reusable, making them both beautiful and sustainable.

Why I Love Newport Home Hand Soap

I’m sensitive to harsh cleansers and overpowering scents, so I usually stick to “free and clear” products, especially when it comes to soaps and detergents. Texture matters a lot to me, too — I can’t stand hand soaps that leave behind a filmy residue. Finding a soap that cleans thoroughly without that unpleasant feeling was a must. Here’s why Newport Home Hand Soap stands out for me.

Its gentle scent makes all the difference.

While I generally prefer mild products, I do enjoy a subtle scent in hand soap. Newport Home has a wide variety of scent options that are gentle and not overwhelming. My favorite is sweet orange — it’s fresh and light, and perfectly captures that clean, citrus vibe. Guests tend to favor the rosemary mint scent, which is a nice balance between fragrant and fresh without being overly floral. I also like creamy coconut, while my friends have loved the wild lavender scent.

Its soft texture is skin-friendly.

Texture is a big deal in my house. During the dry winter months, frequent handwashing (thanks to the kids and their school routines) can lead to painfully chapped hands, especially for my more sensitive child. The harsh soap at school often irritates their skin, leaving their hands red and scaly. Having a gentle, moisturizing soap like Newport at home is vital to balance out the damage done by less skin-friendly school soap.

Although I wish I could pick up more Newport Home Hand Soap during my frequent Costco runs, I’m relieved that it’s still available online, and I can continue to benefit from the high quality suds and scents.
