Oprah Is Selling a (Surprisingly Affordable) Chicago House
Oprah Winfrey’s estimated net worth is $3 billion, but one of the properties in her real estate portfolio is surprisingly modest. The media mogul is currently selling a house in Chicago’s nearby Elmwood Park suburb—for under $400,000.
The 2,250 square foot brick colonial has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an attached garage. Originally built in 1941, Oprah purchased the property in 2001 for $298,000, but has never lived in it. She has made some updates, though, including replacing the roof and gutter system, adding a new garage door, and just this year, updating the heating and cooling system.
The two story home has hardwood floors, two wood burning fireplaces, a large living room and separate dining room on the first floor, with four spacious bedrooms on the top floor. There’s also a walk out basement.
The property was first listed back in September 2016, but was taken down after a few months, according to Architectural Digest. It’s also the last of Oprah’s real estate holdings in Chicago, since she previously sold a four-unit duplex for $4.625 million and a co-op for $2.8 million (from which she auctioned off a bunch of stuff).
Oprah currently owns estates in Hawaii and Montecito, California (where she’s now neighbors with Natalie Portman). She bought the 23 acre Santa Barbara County ranch in February 2016 for $28.9 million, and in addition to the five bedroom, four bath house, the grounds boast two private wells, a two acre avocado grove, numerous citrus trees, rose gardens, a koi pond, and equestrian facilities.
The Elmwood Park house is currently listed with Century 21 McMullen for $393,875.
