I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing I love more than a reliable multi-use product. Since moving into a studio apartment a couple of months back, I’ve been big on downsizing my belongings — which means I love finding single products that can do a lot and replace many. When I was introduced to the dual-use Ostrichpillow Heatbag, I knew I had to give it a try. Full disclosure: I’ve been in a committed relationship with my heating pad for years now, so I’m a big fan of heat therapy products and always down to try the latest iteration. But when I read that this pillow could also be used as an ice pack for cooling pain relief, I thought to myself, “This is a game changer!” I’m happy to say I was right.

Made with recycled memory foam and covered in a soft jersey fabric, the Heatbag is the ultimate pain relief pillow. I’d liken it to an adult version of your favorite stuffed animal from childhood; hugging this pillow = instant comfort. Inside, you’ll find a clay bag insert that can be popped in either the freezer or microwave depending on the desired treatment. With a unique eight-layer design, this bag ensures that the heat/cold is released slowly and focused only on the spot you want to target, preventing you from any temperature shock. Best of all, its modern design makes it an attractive pillow to look at, unlike traditional heating pads, hot water bottles, and ice packs that feel way more clunky.

I’ve used this pillow for everything. It really can do it all, including soothing aching muscles after an intense workout, comfortably treating a headache, and easing away debilitating cramps. One surprising use I’ve found for the Heatbag? Sunburn relief. After getting a truly gnarly sunburn a couple of weeks back (wear your sunscreen, kids — even on walks), I popped this bad boy in the freezer for an hour, packed it in the sleeve, and gently laid it on my chest where my burn hurt the worst. While applying cold compresses directly onto a sunburn is a big no-no, this pillow’s thick cushioned lining created a comfortable buffer between my scorched skin and the sweet cooling relief of the frozen clay pack. Suffice it to say, this pillow’s headed with me on my next summer getaway.

Ostrichpillow’s Heatbag costs $60, which is steeper than other heating/cooling pads I’ve used. However, taking into account its smart design and the fact that it stylishly replaces two pain relief essentials, it’s easy to call this pillow a worthwhile investment. Best of all, you can save a few bucks on the pillow now during the brand’s Back To Work sale, getting it for just $54! In my book, it’s a no-brainer.
