My New York City studio apartment is so small that I can almost touch my kitchen from my bed. You’d think that with a tiny apartment, it’d be easy to manage clutter. But the reality is that no matter how much I try to stay on top of it, there’s more stuff coming in than space to hold it. Over the years I’ve learned to get creative, declutter regularly, and try to use every bit of space wisely. One storage solution in particular has quietly become a lifesaver in my home — my ottoman — but not in a way you’d expect.

My kitchen has very limited cabinet space, so I’ve had to find creative places to store pantry overflow. That’s when I realized the ottoman sitting in my living area could pull double duty. The interior is where I stash extra canned goods that won’t fit in my kitchen cabinets. It might sound unconventional, but it works surprisingly well. Cans are heavy, and the ottoman is sturdy enough to handle the weight with no problem.
