We recently featured a House Tour of Joe and Alana’s 160-year-old Newport home. Alana works for a commercial production company and a creative agency, both in New York City, while Joe is the founder and president of a company based in Warren, Rhode Island. To be together, they travel between the Big Apple and the Ocean State, an arrangement which requires them both to work remotely at times. The couple converted a closet in their den into Alana’s Newport office; the idea was to create a work space that can be easily hidden rather than always inviting her attention.

Alana—partner and executive producer at Identity, a TV commercial production company, and TRIPTENT, a creative agency—chose a design that feels similar to her New York City office, which is predominantly white and modern. Joe—founder and president of Advanced Remarketing Services—built and laminated a desk that folds up.

They added double doors to the closet opening, and Alana selected a chair small enough to slide under the desk when the doors are closed.
