I Finally Found an All-Season Bed Blanket, and It’s the Perfect Weight
Throughout the year, most of my bedding stays the same, but there’s one piece of my bedscape that doesn’t budge from my setup: That’s my soft linen bed blanket from Parachute. It’s been on my bed in the heat of summer, making the perfect layer underneath my lightweight quilt. Now that the temperature is dropping and the depths of winter are on their way, it’s sure to provide just enough extra warmth along with my favorite comforter.
What Is the Parachute Vintage Linen Bed Blanket?
Great for hot sleepers, the Vintage Linen Bed Blanket is crafted with style and durability in mind. Its design is vintage-inspired and gives any bedroom a minimalist look if you tuck it in and smooth out the wrinkles. On the other hand, it can come across as laid-back if you leave your bed unmade and let it get wrinkled. Either way, it looks intentional and put-together.
Made in a Portuguese family-owned factory, it’s woven entirely using European flax, which the brand claims is the “softest linen you’ll ever touch.” It’s garment-washed and dyed before it gets into your hands, so you don’t really have to break it in by putting it through the washing machine. (And you can do that because caring for it is simple.) It’s heavier than Parachute’s linen sheets, but it’s more breathable than cotton and provides a little extra texture.
It lasts longer, too. Linen is known for its superior durability, and the blanket is backed by a 175 GSM. The higher the GSM, the thicker the blanket is. According to Wayfair, “a blanket with a high GSM (300-500+) is perfect for wintertime,” so this one is more ideal for the warmer seasons. You can definitely layer it up in the fall and winter, though.
Why I Love the Parachute Vintage Linen Bed Blanket
Parachute has earned the praises of Apartment Therapy staff for years, but the Vintage Linen Bed Blanket happens to be my first piece of bedding from the brand. Thanks to its weight and surprisingly soft feel for linen, it truly is a piece that I never see leaving my bed. I’ve tried a few scratchy linen sheets in my day, but I haven’t had a problem with that with this blanket. Even though it rests between my sheets and my comforter, the material occasionally comes in contact with my skin, and I’m in no rush to shove it off. So if you’re not a fan of a top sheet, this is a great alternative.
Parachute also warns that the blanket may shed a few times at the start, but I’ve washed it three times — it usually is above my sheets so I wash it less frequently — and haven’t noticed anything. There’s no sign of piling or loose threads, either. It looks just as good as it did on day one, and it’s gorgeous. I love the vintage vibe, especially paired with some cute sheets. This blanket is a definite splurge, as linen usually is, but I see it holding up for years.
