Natural light in a bedroom is a gift (as long as you have blackout curtains for any daytime naps), and thanks to the natural light in this bedroom, homeowner Brandon Andrew Robinson (@drkittygirl) was able to experiment with some darker paint colors on the walls. In fact, their mission for their whole apartment was to have “no white walls.”

Perhaps the space has so many windows because it’s actually the main living room in the Los Angeles loft. Brandon decided to put their bed there instead — in part because it’s the only space the King-size furniture would fit. “I turned the bedroom into the office. I have a King-size bed that wouldn’t have really fit in the bedroom, and I also like the privacy of having my office be its own separate room and space,” they explain. “In converting the bedroom into the office, I then turned the living room into the bedroom, and I turned the dining room into the living room.”

Brandon worked with interior designer Michelle Fahmy of Haus of Meeshie to turn the bedroom into a daring, dreamy bedroom.

Bold pink paint covers the walls.

“Brandon reached out to us and when we had our first walk-through. They were very clear that they never wanted to see another white wall in their space and wanted to be inspired and surrounded by color and pattern,” Michelle says. “They were so open and willing to play, which always makes the process and finished result even more rewarding all around.”

The design-client duo decided on Sherwin-Williams’ Cherries Jubilee, Brandon’s favorite paint color in their whole home! The new color makes this “a completely different space,” Michelle adds. “The way you are hit with color and a dose of dopamine when you walk in the door. It’s pure happiness and a vibe that changes depending on the time of day.”

Because the bedroom is open to the rest of the apartment, Michelle relied on the color to help define the space.

There’s no shortage of bold colors throughout.

And not only are the walls decked in fuchsia, there are more red details, too. “It’s all how color is layered and what it is paired with (in terms of furniture, linens, lighting etc. …),” Michelle says of interior design. In this room, the wallpaper and velvet curtains keep the pinkish red theme going, and the rug and bedding add a pop of yellow.

The blackout curtains are custom, the rug is vintage, and the pop-of-blue bench is from Tov Furniture.  It all comes together to create a colorful-yet-cozy sleep space.
